Kite Runner

I highly recommend 'the Kite Runner' by Khaled Hosseini. Just finished it. Like many stories very plot-driven, but all the more interesting because of the unusual (Afghan) context over several decades. Nice plot twists and not your typical rosy Hollywood-style ending.

I actually listened to the book CDs instead of reading the book. NO, not laziness, but as a good time-saver tool: it makes the work commute a whole lot more enjoyable. The book is read by the (Afghan) author and in this case, really adds to it as you hear the proper pronunciation of the Afghan words he often uses (Bobo, buriani, kabob, etc.). Cool book and very educational to boot.
